take turns (third-person singular simple present takes turns, present participle taking turns, simple past took turns, past participle taken turns)

  1. (intransitive) Of two or more people, to do the same thing one after another, taking one another's place alternately.
  2. (intransitive) To assume a place in a sequence of successions.
    • I took my turn at the wheel.
    • You can take your turn now.
