From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese teta (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), either from a West Germanic *titta (English tit, Dutch tiet, German Zitze) or either an expressive formation identical to it. Compare Portuguese teta, Spanish teta, French tette Cf. also Late Latin titta.
