Đối với người Palestine, cuộc chiến đầu tiên giữa thế giới Ả Rập và Israel được coi là một Thảm họa (Nakba). Nó không chỉ đánh dấu thời điểm họ bị mất nước và bắt đầu số phận lưu vong của mình, mà còn đánh dấu sự sụp đổ của một xã hội Palestine tổng thể và sự thất bại của phong trào dân tộc.
For the Palestinians, the first Arab-Israeli war was the nakba (‘catastrophe’). It marked not only the loss of their homeland and the beginning of their fugitive fate, but also the collapse of Palestinian society as a whole and the defeat of the nationalist movement.
