thermal horsepower (countable and uncountable, plural thermal horsepowers or thermal horsepower)

  1. (electricity) The horsepower of an electric motor, determined by the readings from a thermal-type ammeter.
  2. (electricity) The amount of power a gearbox can convey without overheating when operating continuously for three hours or more; the amount of work that a drive can perform when operating at sea level.
