From tn- and -ax, ultimately from Arabic اِثْنَا عَشَرَ ‎(iṯnā ʿašara). Compare Egyptian Arabic اِتْنَاشَر ‎(itnāšar), Moroccan Arabic تناش ‎(tnaš).
