Etymology[edit]

From Dutch tocht (march, trip), from Proto-Germanic *tuhtiz (pulling), cognate with German Zucht (discipline) and Middle Low German tucht (discipline) (whence Danish tugt). The Germanic noun is derived from the verb *teuhaną (to lead, pull), cf. German ziehen.
