English

Noun

tone number (plural tone numbers)

  1. A number allocated to a syllable in various transliteration systems such as Hanyu Pinyin indicating the tone in which it is pronounced.
When we type the syllable "shi" in pinyin, we should always remember to put its tone number after it to avoid confusion.
