tray +‎ line

Noun

trayline (plural traylines)

  1. A system of food preparation, used in hospitals, in which trays move along an assembly line.
    • 1970, American Hospital Association, Hospitals: the journal of the American Hospital Association: Volume 44
The trays for the test unit at first were assembled on a separate 'trayline within the main kitchen; however, this process consumed excessive space and time, so the operation was transferred to the regular trayline.

These are reasons that trayline assembly is popular in healthcare, especially for acute care environments.
