Etymology

From Latin triptotum, from Ancient Greek τρίπτωτος (tríptōtos), from τρι- (tri-, three) +‎ πίπτω (píptō, to fall) +‎ -τος (-tos, verbal adjective–forming suffix), influenced by the verbal noun πτῶσις (ptôsis, inflection).
