From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English tigre, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English tīgras (pl) and influenced by Old French tigre, both, from Latin tigris, from Ancient Greek τίγρις (tígris), possibly of Iranian origin.
