From Proto-Central Pacific *icu, from Proto-Oceanic *icu (compare Maori ihu, Samoan isu), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ijuŋ (compare Tagalog ilong, Malay hidung), *ujuŋ, from Proto-Austronesian *mujiŋ.
