From Proto-Germanic *jungaz, whence also Old Saxon jung, Old English ġeong, Old High German junc, Gothic 𐌾𐌿𐌲𐌲𐍃 (juggs). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂yuh₁n̥ḱós.
