Finnish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finno-Ugric *ura, from Proto-Uralic *urV, *ura ("man, male"). Cognate with Hungarian úr ("Mr, lord; man, husband, prince"), hence Hungarian ország ("land, realm, state", theorized to be úr+ság but possibly from either Turkic or Iranian), and Sami årēs ("little man, male").
