Romanian

Etymology

Probably from Albanian vapë (hot weather),[1][2] from Old Italian vapa (vapor),[3] from Latin vapor (heat, hot air). Another theory is that it is linked to a Vulgar Latin root *vapalia, from vapa. [4]

Noun

văpaie f (plural văpăi)

  1. flame, blaze
  2. (figuratively) passion
