vienas

  1. (deprecated template usage) genitive singular feminine form of viens
  2. (deprecated template usage) nominative plural feminine form of viens
  3. (deprecated template usage) accusative plural feminine form of viens

Lithuanian

Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *einas (with ey > ie metathesis; from a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *éyno-, éynos, from *éy, *óy (he, it) (non-Baltic cognates derive from *óy; compare Proto-Indo-European *óynos (one)) with a suffix *-no, which originally had an adjectival meaning. The Eastern Baltic cognates (unlike (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Prussian) have an initial v, which suggests an intermediate Eastern Baltic form *weinas. This initial *w may result from sporadic word-initial consonant-joining phenomena, or from a possible particle *w-, *we-. Compare Latvian viêns.
