Etymology

From the obsolete visszál (to change, to turn to the contrary) +‎ -kodik (reflexive suffix), from the adverb vissza (back) +‎ -l (verb-forming suffix). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1]
