(deprecated template usage) From Middle Dutch vracht, from Middle Low German vracht, vrecht (“payment for cargo”), from Old Saxon frāht, frēht. Displaced the native Middle Dutch vrecht, both originally deriving from Proto-Germanic *fra- + *aihtiz. Cognate with English freight and fraught.
