From Proto-Albanian *awa-rangula from Proto-Indo-European *(s)krengh- (to turn, bend). Compare Umbrian krenkatrum, cringatro (belt), Proto-Slavic *krǫgъ (circle) (Russian круг (krug)), Old English hrung (cross-bar, spoke), hring (ring).
