Lithuanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably derived from vyras (man).

Adjective[edit]

vyrèsnis m (feminine vyrèsnė) stress pattern 4

  1. (comparative) older; elder
vyresnis už tave.I'm older than you.
  2. (comparative) of a higher rank; senior

Usage notes[edit]

The word vyresnis is the comparative form of an adjective that does not have a positive (non-comparative) degree. This is probably because it derives from the noun vyras.

The superlative form is vyriáusias (oldest), and the diminutive comparative is vyrėlèsnis (a little older).
