Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Tocharian *wärtto, *wärttonta, probably an extension of from Proto-Indo-European *wértis/*wŕ̥tis (enclosure), from *wer- (surround, cover, contain). Cognate with Old English worþ (enclosure).[1]
