From Proto-Afroasiatic *wVraq- (green ~ yellow). Cognate with Egyptian wꜣḏ (green), Proto-Semitic *waraḳ- (green, yellow, leaf) and Central Atlas Tamazight ⵡⵔⵉⵖ (wriɣ, yellow).
