From Proto-Turkic *yalŋuz, *yalïŋuz, a derivation from Proto-Turkic *yalïŋ (“lonely”), see there for more cognates. Doublet of yalqız. Related to Azerbaijani yalın (“naked, bare”), as in ayaqyalın (“barefoot”).
