Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Uncertain. Similar to Proto-Slavic *šumъ, comparing it to Serbo-Croatian šum. However the presence of a -r-, the irregular correspondence zh-š and the lack of a Slavic cognate in Romanian, shows that the word is not of Slavic origin.

Noun[edit]

zhurmë f (indefinite plural zhurma, definite singular zhurma, definite plural zhurmat)

  1. noise(s) (uncountable)
  2. din
  3. tumult
