Albanian

Etymology

Uncertain. Similar to Proto-Slavic *šumъ. However the presence of a -r-, the irregular correspondence zh-š and the lack of a Slavic cognate in Romanian, shows that the word is not of Slavic origin.

Noun

zhurmë f (plural zhurma, definite zhurma, definite plural zhurmat)

  1. noise(s) (uncountable)
  2. din
  3. tumult
