Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *dźārnā with long *ā < *ē, from Proto-Indo-European *gwher- (to swallow). Close to Lithuanian žarnà (gut), Latvian zarna (intestines), Old Norse gǫrn (gut)[1].
