Etymology

Unknown. Compare Old Armenian կամուրջ (kamurǰ, “bridge”) and Hattic 𒄩𒄠𒈬𒊒𒊀 (ḫa-am-mu-ru-waₐ /⁠ḫamuruwa, ḫammuruwa, ḫāmuruwaₐ⁠/, “beam”). Beekes argues for a Pre-Greek origin.
