Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian حلیه (hiliya), itself from Arabic حِلِيَة (ḥiliya).

حُلِیَہ (huliyam (Hindi spelling हुलिया)

  1. demeanour or more strictly - the countenance, face
    Synonyms: شَکَل (śakal), (loosely) چِہْرَہ (cihra)
    اَپْنا حُلِیَہ دیکھو!
    apnā huliya dekho!
    Look at you!
    (literally, “Look at your huliya (countenance/self/yourself)!”)
  2. (by extension) the description of a person (ie. to identify or recognise a person)
  3. (rare or obsolete) jewellery, ornament, decoration (particularly of gold, silver, jewels etc.)
