Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (pujjaï), from Sanskrit पूज्यते (pūjyate, to be worshiped, passive form). Related to پُوجا (pūjā, worship, veneration).

  1. (Hinduism, polytheism) to worship, to idolise
    • مرزا غالب (Mirzā Ġālib) :
      چھوڑوں گا میں نہ اس بتِ کافر کا بغیر
      choṛūṅgā ma͠i na us but-e-kāfir kā pūjnā
      I will not leave off the worship of that idol of the kafirs
  2. (poetry, monotheism) to worship
    Synonym: عِبادَت کَرنا (ibādat karnā)
  3. (rare) to be fulfilled
