Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kēbe (swollen);[1] cognate with Turkmen gebe. According to Nishanyan, this word could derive from the same root of قبا (kaba, swollen, large), while Clauson connects it with the verb گبرمك (gebermek, to die (of beasts)).
