The sum of the three dissolved forms (CO2, HCO3−, and CO32−) is called total dissolved inorganic carbon and can be denoted by several notations: CT, DIC, TIC, ⨊CO2, TCO2, or even “dissic.” Here we will use CT, and it is one of the MCS variables that can be quantitatively determined.
