Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Compared by Beekes to γυργαθός (gurgathós), κύαθος (kúathos) and ὁρμαθός (hormathós) and declared Pre-Greek. Explained by Rosół as from Egyptian krḥt (a basket for fruits as well as for flowers), itself of unknown origin.
