According to Martirosyan, probably inherited from Proto-Indo-European *ḱrh₂-e/os- (head, top), but a borrowing from the Iranian cognate cannot be excluded either: compare Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭩𐭱𐭤 (sar).
