From மணி (maṇi, “gem, jewel”) + மேகலை (mēkalai, “girdle, belt”), translates to 'Girdle of Jewels.'

- an ancient Tamil epic poem revolving around the titular character, a Buddhist nun and also the illegitimate daughter of Kovalan, one of the protagonists of another Tamil epic called Silapadhikaram. One of the aimperumkappiyangal.
