Etymology[edit]
Possibly a corruption of daku koto, from 抱く (daku, “to hug, to carry or hold in one's arms”) + 事 (koto, “fact, action, instance”),[1][2][3] or of just 抱く (daku, “to hug, to hold in one's arms”).[5]
First appears in texts from the 1830s.[1]
