Etymology[edit]
Appears to be of identical derivation as 伊邪那岐 (Izanagi), only replacing the last syllable き (ki, “male”, common element in Japanese male given names) with み (mi, “female”, common element in Japanese female given names). See the 伊邪那岐 entry for further details. The kanji are ateji (当て字).
Pronunciation[edit]
Proper noun[edit]
- (Japanese mythology) Izanami, the Japanese creator goddess, wife of Izanagi, and mother of Kagutsuchi
