-ászik

  1. (verb-forming suffix) When it is added to a verb, it creates a new verb expressing a repetitive action. When it is added to a noun, it creates a verb expressing collecting and gathering something.
    szagol (to smell) + ‎-ászik → ‎szaglászik (to scent; to snoop around)
    hal (fish) + ‎-ászik → ‎halászik (to fish)

Usage notes[edit]

  • (verb-forming suffix) Variants:
    -ászik is added to a back vowel noun
    -észik is added to a front vowel noun
