Literally: “to give gas”, referring to the fuel-air mix in the engine. Compare Gaspedal (throttle) for more.

  1. to accelerate a car; to step on the gas

  2. (informal) to drive very fast
    Hier ist jetzt 130, aber danach können wir endlich Gas geben.
