Usage notes

• In practice, the use of Inlaut may be more restricted than the above definition depending on the writer and the described language. For example, it may be used loosely for intervokalische Stellung (“intervocalic position”). With regard to the Germanic languages, inlaut is often tacitly restricted to the position after the stressed vowel, thus covering the b in geben, but not that in Gebet.
