beach towel, bath towel, hand towel[edit]

Either these should be deleted as sop, or we are missing face towel, sauna towel, foot towel, football towel, hair towel, dish towel, window towel, cotton towel, terry cloth towel... --Hekaheka (talk) 15:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tend towards keep, the word 'beach' doesn't really tell you anything about it, you can't simply look up beach. Mglovesfun (talk) 19:03, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I note that the definition of "hand towel" claims (correctly or not?) that it may also be used for the face. I just call mine a towel. Equinox 21:48, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Keep all three. All indicate a specific type of towel, although the definitions aren't great. I've expanded beach towel to say that it is typically larger than normal.--Dmol (talk) 22:05, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Lemming tests:
Pass: bath towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., hand towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., beach towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., face towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., dish towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search.
Fail: sauna towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., foot towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., football towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., hair towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., window towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., cotton towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., terrycloth towel”, in OneLook Dictionary Search.
The conclusions of other lexicographers aiming at language learners and translaters seem reasonable for such users, as is the omission of such terms from AHD and MWOnline. The lemming test results seem to coincide with COALMINE per Angr. DCDuring TALK 22:42, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
'Keep all three, as they are the name of specific types of towel. If you bring a small towel, of the sort normally used to dry your hands and face, to a beach it will still be a hand towel, not a beach towel. — Ungoliant (Falai) 11:17, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
