Apparently this talk page was deleted because it was orphaned, but I was just looking at Wiktionary:List of idioms that survived RFD, and "way cool" is listed there. I checked "way", and the adverbial sense of way is listed at that definition, and the adverbial sense given clearly applies to "way cool", so I guess I'll have to go to the RfD discussion and find out for myself why "way cool" survived RfD as an idiom. It would be handy if someone who had been party to the RfD discussions could post a pointer to the RfD discussion here on this talk page. --Arkuat 07:29, 25 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Useless content. // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 01:06, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

(Updated nomination reason.) This is a sum of parts definition. The term 'way' can be used as an adverb in the same way as 'very'. For example, "That's way goth", "way out of process", or "That's way cool". The slang definition should be on 'way', not 'way cool'— and it already is. // Pathoschild (editor / talk) 03:12, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
But way cool picks a specific meaning for cool which isn't the primary meaning, so it passes the Egyptian pyramid test. Keep. DAVilla 03:28, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Delete as sum of parts. RE: cool, perhaps its not the original meaning, but primary? I would hazard that the "hip" meaning is now more frequent than, e.g. the "not warm" meaning. In any case, the fact that "way" is a superlative would remove the confusion, as something very cool temperature-wise is cold. --Jeffqyzt 14:19, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Keep per Way Cool, Jr. (egad, am I that old?) bd2412 T 04:01, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

After cleanup, no clear consensus to delete, so kept. Removing RFD tag, will move this conversation to its talk page in a week. --Connel MacKenzie 18:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

It should not be re-entered without careful consideration.

way cool

[edit]

way (nonstandard meaning "very") + cool. The definition even says "very cool" for crying out loud, the author didn't even try to make it looks like SoP by saying very trendy or something. It "way sum of parts" and I way want it to be deleted. Mglovesfun (talk) 22:49, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Delete It is probably the most common collocation with this sense of way#Adverb. As such, it should be in a usex there. DCDuring TALK 23:23, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Wow I can't believe this one has survived for so many years. Hilariously, the original definition was, "way cool is way cool". Delete with speed. ---> Tooironic 23:27, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree with your interpretation. Delete with velocity =P —Internoob (DiscCont) 23:46, 19 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Incidentally, this passed a previous RFD due to no consensus. I've accelerated deletion. (Just don't call me a jerk.)—msh210 (talk) 17:41, 21 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
