Etymology[edit]

From the independently not demonstrable hol (dawn) + nap (day). Originally meant "morning". For the "morning" > "tomorrow" development, compare German Morgen (morning), morgen (tomorrow). The prefix is from the Proto-Uralic *kuδɜ (morning).
