Etymology

Borrowed from Austrian German Grundbirne (literally ground pear), more specifically from Bavarian grumper, krumbeer, krumpir.[1] Suffixed with -i to resolve the word-final consonant cluster, compare cetli from Bavarian zettl or German Zettel (/⁠ˈt͡sɛtl̩⁠/) etc.
