Ancient Greek πτερόν (pterón) + στίγμα (stígma), meaning "wing mark".
Noun[edit]
pterostigma (plural pterostigmata)
- (zoology) A cell in the outer wing of insects which is often thickened or coloured and so stands out from other cells
- The pterostigma is particularly noticeable in dragonflies.
