From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *saruk (“to scoop water”).[1] Doublet of sandok.

- scooping of water (as from a pail, bucket, etc.)
- scooper; dipper
- fetching of water (from a well, spring, etc.)
- Synonym: igib
- swooping or diving flight (as of a flying kite in the air)
- small net-like scoop for catching fish within a fenced-in enclosure (with a spoon-like structure)
- small hand net for catching butterflies
