straattaal f (plural straattalen, diminutive straattaaltje n)

  1. (chiefly Netherlands) youth slang; in particular a youth slang spoken in the cities and larger towns of the Randstad, characterised by borrowings from English and immigrant languages such as Sranan Tongo and Maghrebin Arabic
  2. (chiefly Belgium) community language, the lingua franca that people use in everyday interactions
