Inherited from Proto-Slavic *ežiti (sę). Synchronically ёжить (jóžitʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja), however the verb ёжить (jóžitʹ) many times less common. ёж (jož) +‎ -ить (-itʹ) +‎ -ся (-sja).

ёжиться • (jóžitʹsja) impf (perfective съёжиться)

to shiver (with/from), shrink (from) shudder (at)
ёжиться от хо́лода (от неприя́тных мы́слей, ощуще́ний) ― jóžitʹsja ot xóloda (ot neprijátnyx mýslej, oščuščénij) ― to shiver from cold (unpleasant thoughts, feelings)
