From มติ (má-dtì, opinion; resolution; etc.) +‎ มหา (má-hǎa, great) +‎ โจร (joon, criminal; outlaw; robber; thief; etc.); literally meaning "opinion of a great outlaw" or "opinion of the majority of the outlaws"; mocking the term มติมหาชน (má-dtì-má-hǎa-chon, public opinion).
