Normalized spelling of earlier صَلَوٰة (ṣalāh), from Classical Syriac ܨܠܘܬ (ṣəlōṯ), whence the denominal root ص ل و (ṣ-l-w). Compare Ugaritic 𐎕𐎍𐎚 (ṣlt).
