Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish چناق (çanak, “bowl, earthenware pot”), itself from Proto-Turkic *čïnïańak (“cup, bowl”). Cognate with Azerbaijani çanaq, Bashkir сынаяҡ (sınayaq), Kazakh шыныаяқ (şynyaäq) and Uzbek chanoq.
