From Proto-Balto-Slavic *źmṓ, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰmṓ, from *dʰéǵʰōm (earth). Cognates include Old Prussian zmūi, Latin homō and Gothic 𐌲𐌿𐌼𐌰 (guma).[1]
